Healthcare cybersecurity has a resource problem. Collaboration may hold the answer.

The cybersecurity challenges facing the digital health environment are complex in scope. While the threat landscape continues to evolve at a rapid pace, most of these problems are rooted in longstanding challenges tied to resources, knowledge gaps, and legacy systems.  

In this episode of Health Stealth Radio, host Jessica Davis speaks with Errol Weiss, Chief Security Officer of Health-ISAC, about the importance of leveraging existing, free resources in collaboration with peers to better respond to longstanding cybersecurity challenges. 

Weiss discussed cybersecurity strategies for small- and medium-sized organizations, noting the importance of basic cybersecurity hygiene and supply chain security for larger organizations. It’s long established that healthcare needs to be more resilient in the facing of continued targeting by nefarious actors.  The focus, says Weiss, should be on quick detection and remediation of security incidents.  

The discussion also touched on the importance of threat sharing and participating in discussions and other industry meetings that allow peers to share the most up-to-date information relevant to healthcare to access lessons learned from other organizations through best practices and templates.
