AI-powered Viz.ai improves outcomes in stroke patients
For Viz.ai founder and CEO Chris Mansi, MD, every minute spent on inefficient tasks like retrieving medical results meant an exponential growth of problems for his patients.
As a former U.K.-based neurosurgeon treating stroke patients, “time is brain.” Every minute a stroke patient waits for care, they lose, on average, 1.9 million neurons and 14 billion synapses in their brain. Every 10 minutes a patient goes untreated, they lose eight weeks of their life.
Mansi founded Viz.ai to help providers treat patients faster. Using artificial intelligence, the software compares CT images of a patient’s brain against a database to detect early signs of vessel occlusion strokes. It then notifies doctors on their phones, reducing the amount of time it would take to get that patient into surgery using traditional diagnostic methods.

One study found that hospitals using Viz.ai’s AI technology could reduce the time between a patient’s arrival and their first evaluation by a brain surgery specialist by almost 40 minutes.
In January, Viz.ai announced that over 1500 hospitals had adopted their technology, reaching 45,000 healthcare providers.
